German Auto Service was opened with a passion for German cars and their owners. Our team specializes on repairs and factory scheduled maintenance for Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Mini, Audi, Volkswagen and Volvo vehicles. In October 2016, Graf Balda, lead technician purchased the shop. He and his team continue to provide the same quality service that has kept customers coming back for the past 21 years.
In July 2017, a new lead tech was added to the team to keep up with the increasing demand and growing customer base of German based motors. Working out of a historic Oldsmobile dealership from the 1940’s, Graf and his team keep the passion for cars growing each day.
Do you have a project car you want to rebuild or repair? Our team works on customer requested project cars to find rare parts and components based on 33 years of combined experience.
Graf Balda – Owner/ Technician
Graf Balda does much more than run the shop and pay employees. Before he discovered he had a passion for cars, he attended art school, and he is one of few mechanics to receive a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Historic Preservation. His interest to work with his hands and repair, or as he says, “bring things back to life” is what makes up his 29 years of experience in the industry a success. A man with an eye for detail, he makes sure every customer leaves satisfied and without breaking the bank. You may ask, what sets Graf Balda aside? The answer is, he treats his customers and employees just as he likes to be treated, “fair and kind”. When Graf is not working, you can find him surfing on the beaches of Ecuador. Graf is an avid LEGO collector. You’ll see many of his builds when visiting the the waiting room. Graf believes that working with legos helped teach him problem solving skills and to how to work with his hands.
Zachary Dixon – Technician
Zachary Dixon is a super-star-technician with an abundant set of skills; one of them is his speed of work. He gets a lot done in a short amount of time. Before starting at German Auto Service, he served in the Navy as a sonar technician on a submarine. His interest in fixing cars sparked years ago when he first helped his father fix his own cars. When Zach is not in the shop, he is playing drums, video games or spending time with his girlfriend and three cats. His favorite muscle car is an old 69 Camaro and his favorite place to visit is the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Chris Leuty – Office Manager
Chris Leuty may only have one title on her badge, yet she holds many others responsibilities. She is the face that greets you as you come through the door, or the voice you hear when you call German Auto Service to book an appointment. Chris is in charge of the books, and makes sure the shop runs smoothly behind scenes. Her favorite thing about her job is, “everything”. She says, “I love the customers, I love that it is close to home and I love my coworkers and my boss.” Chris enjoys spending time with family, going to the lake & vacationing at Anna Maria Island on the gulf side of Florida.

He always looks forward to driving different cars and enjoys interacting with the customers. Apart from working, John values fitness and staying healthy. You may find him working out or even prepping a hearty, nutritious meal. If you like music then you need to know John is a musician at heart, and “is” a vocalist of a 90’s Alice in Chains tribute band. Ask him what his favorite instrument is, he will probably answer – drums, electric guitars or maybe both!
One of the newest member of the team is Carter Mindedahl is from St. Joe, MO. He started working on engines like Corvettes and Chevys as a kid with his dad. This love of fixing things and finding the solutions to problems is what drives him to be a master mechanic today.
